BATON ROUGE -- LSU’s allotment of tickets to the 2008 BCS National Championship Game have been sold to season ticket holders, LSU assistant athletic director Brian Broussard announced Sunday.

LSU will play Ohio State on January 7 in the Louisiana Superdome in a battle for the national championship of college football.

LSU received requests for over 60,000 tickets to the game from season ticket holders who had until November 19 to place their orders. Participating schools receive an allotment of only 16,000 tickets each. Beginning Monday, December 10, LSU season tickets holders will begin receiving notification if and how many tickets they will receive.

LSU’s allotment of tickets to the BCS National Championship Game will be allocated first to players, coaches, LSU students, LSU Athletic Department and University official party. Next, tickets are allocated to football season tickets holders who placed their order by November 19 based on the LSU Priority Point System.

The number of ticket requests from season ticket holders will be measured against the number of tickets available to determine what limits must be imposed. A limited lottery will be conducted for a small portion of the tickets.

Music City Bowl Tickets Sold Out, But Some Available

The few remaining tickets for the Cats return trip to the Music City Bowl in Nashville were snatched up by fans soon after the bowl bid was announced, University of Kentucky officials said.

"They went virtually instantly," media relations director Tony Neely said.

The university's allotment of 27,000 tickets were bought by season ticket holders before the bowl bid was even announced. About 500 individual tickets were available at MusicCityBowl.com Sunday evening but they were quickly sold out.

Face value for the tickets range from $15 to $70.

UK will play the Florida State Seminoles at 4 p.m. Dec. 31.

The game will be played at LP Field, home of the NFL's Tennessee Titans. It has a capacity of 69,000.

Stadium parking passes must be purchased in advance. Regular parking costs $15, and parking for recreational vehicles costs $50. Parking passes cannot be purchased on game day.

Music City Bowl officials are expecting 50,000 visitors from Kentucky and Florida State.

The 2006 Music City Bowl, in which Kentucky defeated Clemson, had the seventh highest attendance among the 32 bowls at 68,024.

The university received an allotment of 24,000 tickets last year. University officials estimate another 26,000 UK fans bought tickets separately.

Pitt's Dave Wannstedt Gets Extension

Dec. 1 (Bloomberg) -- The University of Pittsburgh gave football coach Dave Wannstedt a three-year contract extension through the 2012 season.

The school didn't disclose financial terms of the extension in a statement. Wannstedt, a 1974 Pittsburgh graduate, is in his third year as Panthers coach.

"The day I accepted the head coaching position at the University of Pittsburgh, I said that our goal was to firmly place Pitt among the very best programs in the country,'' Wannstedt said. "That goal has not changed and I believe now more than ever that we are doing all the necessary things to reach that level.''

Pitt finished 5-7 after beating second-ranked West Virginia 13-9 in today's season-finale. Wannstedt has a 16-19 record in his three seasons.

Prior to taking over at his alma mater in 2004, the 55- year-old Wannstedt was the coach of the National Football League's Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears and was an assistant with the Dallas Cowboys.

Orange Bowl possibilities go on many routes

Relevant games commence at 1 p.m. Saturday and won't conclude until well past 1 a.m. Sunday, and given college football's nature this season, expect mass confusion on the eve of bowl invitations.

No matter the results, Virginia Tech's most likely destination is the Orange or Chick-fil-A Bowl. Virginia's is the Champs Sports or Gator.

Here's a detailed look at how this weekend's games could affect the Hokies' and Cavaliers' postseason bids:

Virginia Tech and Boston College meet in the ACC championship game in Jacksonville, Fla., with the winner headed to the Orange Bowl. The most likely opponents are Georgia, Missouri or Kansas.

The ACC loser, especially if it's Virginia Tech, would have an outside chance at one of the Bowl Championship Series' four at-large bids — the conference's first in the BCS' 10 years. But that would happen only if Hawaii and/or Arizona State, both at-large candidates, lose to Washington and Arizona, respectively.

Wait. There's another condition.

Among the BCS games, the Sugar would be most interested in the Hokies as an at-large. But the Sugar's host team is the Southeastern Conference champion, and if LSU defeats Tennessee in the SEC title game, the Sugar will not want to stage a rematch of the Tigers' 48-7 September demolition of the Hokies.

Translation: If Virginia Tech loses, its fans need to root for Tennessee, Arizona and Washington. Should an at-large bid not follow — BCS pairings are unveiled at 8 p.m. Sunday — the Hokies almost certainly would head to the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta for the second consecutive season, where an SEC opponent (perhaps Auburn) would await.
